Import a Certificate
Ensure you mark the Key as Exportable when Importing into System.
Ensure the user saves the password somewhere they will be able to locate it.
Export a Certificate
The FDA provides instructions for exporting certificates.
The steps provided by the FDA have not been updated for Edge (they are still based upon Internet Explorer). The following are updated for using the EDGE Browser.
Public Key
From the EDGE browser top right corner (…), go to Settings.
From Settings, go to Privacy, search and services. Scroll down to Security, and on Manage Certificates there is a pop-out icon.
Select Export.
Select No, do not export the private key and click Next.
Select Cryptographic Message Syntax Standard and click Next.
Click Next. Click Save as. Click Save. Click Next. Click Finish.
Naming convention should be:
Example: FDA Public Key – LastName – Expires 2026-SEP-05.P7B
Private Key
From the EDGE browser top right corner (…), go to Settings.
From Settings, go to Privacy, search and services. Scroll down to Security. On Manage Certificates, click the pop-out icon.
Select Export.
Select Yes, Export the Private Key.
Select Include all certificates in the certification path if possible. Uncheck Enable certificate privacy.
It is CRITICAL to save and remember this password.
Save the certificate.
Naming Convention for PFX should be:
Example: FDA Private Key – LastName – Expires 2026-SEP-05.PFX
Note: This file will be uploaded into Vault, and the password must be retained and entered into Vault. The password and certificate should always be kept in the case Vault needs to be reconfigured at a later date.
